Follow the active seats
In the baseline Old Maid procedure, a player who has no cards is out of the draw sequence. When the offer moves around the table, skip empty hands and continue among players still holding cards.
Look at the teaching sequence
The turn demo uses four labelled seats. Each card is visible and each draw is predetermined, so you can inspect the order. As a seat empties, the diagram marks it as finished rather than asking it to draw again.
Do not rush the handoff
In a family session, pause after a pair is removed. Ask who still has cards, who offers next, and who will draw. Pointing to the seats can help more than repeating a long instruction.
End with the cards, not a label
Once all pairs have gone, one player holds the unmatched card. Explain the result without teasing that player. Invite another round only if the group wants one. Our site uses seat letters and a Sun illustration rather than a child’s name or portrait.
