Spread and count
For our small printable, group the six picture labels. Each should have two copies; Sun should have one. The total is thirteen. Keep extra printouts away from the deck you are checking.
Make the backs uninformative
The supplied sheet prints card faces only. Use opaque paper or sleeves so a picture is not visible from the back. Check for distinctive marks and uneven cuts that might give a card away. The browser exercise is face up and therefore does not test hidden drawing.
Choose the activity
Leave Sun in for the custom Old Maid setup. Remove it for a pairs-only activity. Tell everyone which activity you chose before starting, rather than changing the ending halfway through.
Put it away as a set
After play, reunite the discarded pairs and the remaining card. Count again before storing. A missing card is easier to find while the table is still set up than at the start of the next gathering.
